In Cheer Season 2, audiences are introduced to a host of new talent from rookies at Navarro to cheer veterans at TVCC. Jada Wooten from TVCC and Cassadee Dunlap have quickly become fan favorites and both gave their everything at Daytona 2021 but sadly, they are no longer cheering for their respective schools. Newsweek has everything you need to know.

Why Did ‘Cheer’s’ Jada Wooten and Cassadee Dunlap Leave TVCC and Navarro, Exactly?

Jada Wooten

Star tumbler and flyer Jada Wooten is introduced in Cheer Season 2 as one of the most determined athletes on the TVCC team. After losing to Daytona in 2019 and missing out on the competition in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Jada was determined to leave TVCC’s The Cardinals with a win under her belt.

Early in Cheer Season 2, she shares her struggles with “mental blocks” with filmmakers after suffering a nasty fall in the months before joining TVCC in early 2019. She credited TVCC coach Vontae Johnson for motivating her and making her the best version of herself.

As Cheer comes to an end, Jada is the de facto leader and motivator for the team and puts her all into her squad. Thankfully, all of the pressure Jada was feeling was not in vain, with TVCC lifting the trophy at Daytona 2021.

Since then, Jada has officially left TVCC to study at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, joining the Kats cheer team for the 2021 to 2022 season.

Speaking in Cheer, Jada said the reason behind her move was that it was simply “time for a change.”

She said: “This sport changed me in the best way possible. A few months ago I was having trouble thinking how I won’t have this again or see some of these people for a really long time but I think it’s time to move on and time for a change and to see what I could do somewhere else.”

In May 2021 announcing the news on her Instagram, Jada wrote: “Blessed and on my way to big things. Thank you for all the love and support!”

Outside of TVCC, Wooten previously cheered for the Stingray All-Stars Peach, earning a 2015 world championship title. With the Lady Bullets and the Cheer Athletics (CA) Panthers, she secured three world bronze medals, reports Bustle.

Cassadee Dunlap

Cassadee Dunlap was one of Navarro’s stand-out tumblers in 2020 and 2021.

She competed at Daytona 2021, alongside her roommate and best friend Gillian Rupert. Sadly, despite Gillian’s return to Navarro for the 2021-2022 season, Cassadee decided not to go back to Texas for another year.

Cassadee told Cheer filmmakers that she left Navarro to pursue her future.

She explained: “Cheerleading. it’s not everybody’s future. So I decided I wanted to start my future. Now. Whereas she [Gillian], she wants a shot at that ring.”

If Cassadee’s Instagram (@cassadeedimples) is anything to go by, she is currently studying at the University of Central Arkansas and is cheering for the Bears.

Cassadee also spoke openly on Cheer about her child pageant past including her appearances on Cheer Perfection and Toddlers & Tiaras. She spoke candidly about how that experience taught her to “smile through the pain.”

Her mother is renowned cheer coach Alisha Dunlop, who is also the owner of Allstar Cheerleading gym Cheer Time Revolution, which was once the center of TLC’s reality show Cheer Perfection in the early 2010s and is still going strong today.

Cheer Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix now.
